What Does OC Stand for?

OC = Optical Carrier (OC lines), and the transmission speed is defined in the SONET specification. OC defines transmission by optical devices, and STS is the electrical equivalent. STM = Synchronous Transport Module, which operates at 155.52 Mbit/s. OC Lines work with a sonet oc system (synchronous optical network) which runs in multiples of 51.840 Mbps (as you can see on the chart above).

OC-1 Internet speed is around 52 Mbps but the bandwidth can be increased with higher levels of internet. The levels vary from oc-1 up to oc-768 which offers internet speeds of about 38.5 Gbps.

Base rate = 52 Mbps, OCx Internet = fastest internet available.
